Limpopo government to build a house for conjoined twins
Limpopo Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba officiated the sod-turning ceremony for the construction of the conjoined twins’ house at Majeje Village, Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality, on Monday.
The twins were born on 28 January 2026 to a 29-year-old mother at Mankweng Tertiary Hospital, just outside Polokwane. They were joined at the abdomen.
They were successfully separated following a historic eight-hour surgical procedure by a team of specialist doctors led by Professor Nyaweleni Tshifularo.

Before the historic separation, Premier Ramathuba had promised to build a decent home for the family of the conjoined twins.
This led to her hosting the Premier’s Annual Golf Day for a good cause, to raise funds to build the house.

During the sod-turning ceremony, Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba appreciated RISIMA for taking the lead in constructing the house, which is expected to be completed within the next two months, providing a new home for the twins and their family.

Dr Ramathuba extended her heartfelt thanks to Dr Mokoena for generously donating the land for the project. Dr Mokoena said he was touched by the story because he also has a twin brother.
The ceremony was also attended by among others, MEC for LEDET Mr Tshitereke Matibe, the Executive Mayor of Mopani District Pule Shayi and the Mayor of Ba-Phalaborwa Local Municipality Merriam Malatji.
