UNIVEN suspends face-to-face academic activities
The University of Venda, UNIVEN, has temporarily suspended face-to-face academic activities due to severe rainfall and flooding affecting parts of the Vhembe District in Limpopo.
In a notice issued on 15 March 2026, the university said the decision follows safety alerts regarding flooded roads, mudslides and damaged bridges across the region, which pose risks to staff and students travelling to campus.

Following an emergency meeting attended by executive deans, deputy deans for teaching and learning, and the Dean of Students, the institution resolved that all lectures scheduled for Monday, 16 March and Tuesday, 17 March 2026 will be conducted online. No assessments will take place during this period.
**PUBLIC NOTICE**

The university said the temporary measure aims to safeguard the well-being of the university community amid continued rainfall and hazardous road conditions.

Staff and students have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel, particularly in areas where roads, bridges or surrounding infrastructure may be affected by flooding or erosion.
Students experiencing flooding or related emergencies are being assisted through the Office of the Dean of Students.
The university indicated that the situation will be reassessed on Tuesday evening, after which further communication will be issued depending on weather conditions and their impact on normal operations.
