Mokopane water discolouration has been addressed
The Mogalakwena Local Municipality has reassured residents that urgent steps are being taken to address reports of brown or discoloured water in Mokopane and surrounding areas.
According to Lepelle Northern Water, the issue is linked to elevated iron and manganese levels in raw water sourced from the Doorndraai Dam.

The problem is largely attributed to seasonal dam turnover during the rainy season, when rising water levels disturb sediments that enter the treatment system. Discolouration may also occur after pipeline repairs or network disturbances.
Municipal officials and water specialists conducted an on-site visit to assess the situation. Monitoring has been intensified to ensure compliance with SANS 241 drinking water standards.
The Department of Water and Sanitation has also been engaged to rehabilitate the canal supplying the treatment plant.

Corrective measures include adjusting chemical dosing, increasing filter backwashing, flushing bulk pipelines, and cleaning reservoirs.
