Vhembe residents warned of floods as heavy rains hit again
The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety has issued a fresh flood warning for the Vhembe District after overnight heavy downpours caused several roads and bridges to flood.
According to the latest update, key routes, including the Mutele to Tshandama road and the Folovhodwe to Musina route, are submerged, while the Guyuni Bridge has been damaged and is not safe for travel.

Authorities are urging motorists and pedestrians to avoid all flooded crossings and not to attempt driving or walking through deep water, a dangerous situation that can be fatal even for larger vehicles.
Officials have also warned parents to monitor school routes, as learners may be exposed to risky conditions near waterlogged areas.
This latest alert comes as Limpopo continues to recover from a devastating period of flooding that began in late December 2025 and continued into January 2026.

Throughout that event, relentless heavy rain caused widespread damage across the province, particularly in the Mopani and Vhembe districts, leaving communities isolated, infrastructure destroyed and families displaced. Recovery efforts are still ongoing in many affected areas.
During that earlier crisis, the South African Weather Service issued some of the highest weather warnings on record and the situation was formally classified as a national disaster to allow coordinated emergency response and support.
Residents are advised to stay informed of weather conditions and follow safety directives from officials, as additional rain could worsen conditions in low-lying areas.
