Shingwedzi re-opens following floods in Kruger National Park

The Shingwedzi Rest Camp in the Kruger National Park is set to re-open as from Friday, 6 March, as infrastructure restoration efforts continue following the January 2026 floods.

SANParks announced on Tuesday that access to Shingwedzi will, for now, only be through Punda Maria or Pafuri Gates.

In the meantime, repairs are underway at the approach of the Letaba high water bridge, which connects the tar road between Mopani and Letaba Rest Camps and the public will be informed once the bridge is ready and accessible.

Other Camps in the north of the park which are open are: Punda Maria Rest Camp, Bateleur Bush Camp, Mopani Rest Camp [partially open] accessible through Punda and Pafuri Gates as well as Olifants Rest Camp accessible through Phalaborwa Gate.

Talamati Bush Camp is now inaccessible following rainfall on Monday, 02 March 2026, guests are now being directed to other camps.

“Guests are reminded that gravel roads marked with “No Entry” signs must not be accessed under any circumstances,” said SANParks Head of Communications and Spokesperson JP Louw.
