ANCYL Limpopo endorses unity slate ahead of conference
The African National Congress Youth League [ANCYL] in Limpopo has thrown its weight behind the unity slate ahead of the upcoming 11th Provincial Conference scheduled for March 2026.
The highly anticipated 11th Conference will take place from 27 to 29 March 2026 in Polokwane.
It was widely expected that current Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba would go head-to-head with Polokwane Municipality Executive Mayor John Mpe for the position of Chairperson.

However, following a meeting by regional representatives last week, it was resolved to have Dr Ramathuba as Provincial Chairperson with Mpe deputising.
Vha-Musanda Reuben Madadzhe is poised to retain his position as the Provincial Secretary to be deputised by the Norman Mashabane regional Chairperson, Pule Shai, while the Sekhukhune Region will be represented by Eddie Maila as the incoming Provincial Treasurer.
However, reports are suggesting that there has been some grumbling over the absence of a non-Xitsonga-speaking person in the proposed top five, something that might cause a headache for the ANC in the highly diverse province.

During its recent Special Provincial Executive Committee meeting, the league took the decision to endorse the proposed top five.
The League says the proposed slate for the top five positions will assist the party to remain united ahead of the upcoming Local government elections scheduled to be held later this year. It also called for the inclusion of its former and current leaders in the PEC.
“We have decided to support the list of leadership proposed by all the regions of the ANC to avoid further tensions and divisions that might tear our fragile movement,” said ANCYL Provincial Secretary, Phineas Sebola.
“We are happy with the line-up, and we are sure that this proposed leadership will take our movement forward to greater heights and decisive victory come local government elections and beyond,” added Sebola.
