Two Limpopo police officers arrested for E-Wallet bribe
Two South African Police Service (SAPS) members stationed at Hlogotlou Police Station in the Sekhukhune District, Limpopo, have been arrested for corruption after allegedly soliciting bribes from suspects.
According to police, the first incident involved a detective sergeant who was allocated a case docket of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH).
During the investigation, the officer allegedly instructed the suspect to pay the victim R1 500 so that the case could be withdrawn.

The payment was made via eWallet using the victim’s cellphone number. However, the detective reportedly took the victim’s phone, withdrew the money, handed R700 to the victim and kept R800 for himself.
The matter was later uncovered, prompting the registration of a corruption case that was referred to the Provincial Anti-Corruption Investigation Unit for further investigation.
The same detective sergeant is also accused of dealing in dagga at the police station holding cells. In a separate incident on 19 November 2024, the sergeant and a constable allegedly searched a suspect’s house and found dagga.

Instead of arresting the suspect, the officers reportedly demanded a bribe of R2 500. They allegedly took R1 000 from the suspect’s pockets and indicated they would return for the remaining R1 500.
When the officers returned, they were intercepted by security officers and apprehended.
The two officers are expected to appear before the Nebo Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 19 January 2026, facing charges of corruption and defeating the ends of justice.
