President Ramaphosa visits flood-hit stricken areas in Limpopo
President Cyril Ramaphosa has visited flood-stricken areas in Limpopo to assess the extent of damage caused by recent heavy rains and to engage with affected communities in the Mopani and Vhembe districts.
The floods have left a trail of destruction, with at least 36 houses washed away in the Mopani District. Tragically, a one-year-old child lost their life during the disaster, highlighting the severe human impact of the floods.

Speaking during his visit, President Ramaphosa described the situation as heartbreaking. “Thirty-six houses were wiped away in the Mopani District, and a one-year-old child has passed away. This is very devastating,” he said.
He praised the efforts of local communities and authorities, adding, “I am pleased to know that the community, the municipality and the provincial government have been doing everything they can to assist the people who were affected by the floods.”
The President noted that many residents in the Vhembe District live close to riverbanks, while in Mopani, swollen rivers burst their banks, worsening the damage to homes and infrastructure.

Law enforcement agencies, disaster management teams and search-and-rescue units remain fully operational, focusing on rescue efforts, public safety and securing affected areas.
Residents have been warned to avoid flooded roads and river crossings, as conditions remain dangerous and unpredictable.
Government has reiterated its commitment to a coordinated response and continued support for affected families as recovery efforts continue.
