Day visitors into the Kruger National Park temporarily suspended
Kruger National Park has temporarily suspended access for day visitors due to ongoing heavy rainfall affecting Limpopo and Mpumalanga provinces.
The precautionary measure aims to protect guests, staff, and surrounding communities from potential hazards caused by worsening weather and road conditions.

SANParks explained that operational and emergency resources are currently stretched, and the focus must remain on urgent situations rather than avoidable incidents linked to non-essential travel within the park. “The safety of all visitors and staff remains our highest priority,” the organisation said.
As part of emergency responses, Letaba Rest Camp is in the process of evacuating both staff and guests after floodwaters from the Letaba River entered the camp. Meanwhile, the Phalaborwa Gate will remain closed for at least 24 hours as authorities monitor conditions in the northern sections of the park.
SANParks stressed that the suspension of day visitor access is a preventative safety measure, which will be reviewed continuously as the weather and road conditions change.

The organisation apologised for any inconvenience caused and thanked the public for their understanding and cooperation during this challenging period.
Further updates will be provided as the situation evolves, with priority given to ensuring the safety of everyone in and around the park.
