Limpopo to revoke liquor licenses of outlets serving minors
The Limpopo Department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism (LEDET) has issued a stern warning to liquor outlets owners, announcing that all liquor licenses will be revoked if establishments are found selling alcohol to, or entertaining minors under the age of 18.
According to the department, liquor license holders are legally required to prevent anyone under the age of 18 from entering liquor premises for alcohol sales, consumption, or entertainment. Failure to verify the age patrons, even intentionally, is considered a serious violation of Liquor Act.

LEDET emphasized that liquor outlets sharing premises with spaza shops must have clear demarcations and separate entrances. Minors entering spaza shops for essential items must not have any visual or physical access to liquor sections.
Working alongside the South African Police Service, the department will intensify compliance inspections throughout the festive season. Outlets found violating the law face harsh consequences, including the revocation of operating licenses and closure of businesses.

Parents are warned to refrain from sending minors to buy them alcohol, and minors are equally advised to refuse to comply to such irresponsible and reckless parental orders.
Presence of minors at liquor outlets open them to vulnerability, possible abuses including sexual assaults by intoxicated patrons.
