Man burned with hot cooking oil by girlfriend in Mmotong
A 38-year-old man from Mmotong, Moletjie, outside Polokwane in Limpopo, is recovering in hospital after suffering third-degree burns during a violent domestic incident involving his 28-year-old girlfriend.
The incident occurred on Friday, 5 December 2025, and has raised renewed concerns about escalating cases of domestic violence.

According to information from the Limpopo Police, an argument broke out between the couple at their residence, reportedly fueled by alcohol.
It is alleged that the man had physically assaulted his girlfriend while intoxicated. In retaliation, she allegedly poured hot cooking oil over him, leaving him with severe injuries to his upper body.
Both parties were later taken to the Seshego SAPS Community Service Centre for questioning. Despite the extent of the man’s injuries, police say he declined to open a case against his girlfriend. Instead, the couple opted to pursue protection orders against each other.

Police confirmed that a follow-up meeting with both individuals has been scheduled for Monday, 8 December 2025, to further address the matter. The pair is also expected to visit their nearest Magistrate’s Court to finalize their applications for protection orders.
Community members were urged to seek help early in situations of escalating conflict to prevent similar incidents.
