Ga-Mphahlele rising star joins Skeem Saam

Popular SABC1 drama Skeem Saam is set to introduce a fresh storyline twist with the arrival of rising young actress Relebogile Mothapo, from Hweleshaneng in Ga-Maphahlele, Limpopo, who joins the cast as Jacqui Monama. 

Her first appearance is scheduled for 19 November. Fans can expect a character who is sharp, complex, and also unafraid to challenge the status quo in Turfloop.

Born in 2010, Mothapo has been immersed in the arts from an early age, developing a love for performing through music, storytelling, and theatre. She describes joining Skeem Saam as a dream fulfilled, saying she has always wanted to “tell stories that make people feel something.”

Her character, Jacqui Monama, arrives with emotional depth and a layered backstory. Confident and striking, Jacqui is known for turning heads, but her tough exterior hides unresolved trauma rooted in abandonment and a complicated family history.

After losing her home in Season 11, Jacqui’s life takes a dramatic new direction as she navigates identity, belonging, and the search for stability.

The Skeem Saam writing team also praised Mothapo’s performance, describing her portrayal as magnetic and emotionally rich. Viewers can expect a character who is outspoken, defiant, and impossible to ignore.
