Two learners die, three injured in Sekhukhune road crash
The Limpopo Department of Education has expressed deep sorrow following a tragic road accident that claimed the lives of two learners from A.M. Mashego Secondary School in the Sekhukhune South Education District. The incident occurred on Friday afternoon, 14 November 2025, between the local police station and Onane Primary School, near Zama Zama Secondary School.
According to preliminary information, five learners were travelling in a vehicle when the accident happened. Two of them, identified as Mokoana Blessing and Mathibela Bongani, died at the scene. The other three learners who are Makola Calvin, Mohlalo Mojakgomo and Mokaba Herbert, sustained critical injuries and were rushed to St Rita’s Hospital for emergency medical care.

Reports indicate that the group consisted of two Grade 10 learners and one each from Grades 9, 11 and 12, who were returning from an examination session.
It is alleged that the Grade 12 learner was driving a vehicle reportedly provided by his parents earlier in the day after he had arrived late for an exam. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.
The Department described the tragedy as a harsh reminder of the importance of strengthening road safety awareness among learners and communities.

MEC for Education, Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya, granted her condolences to the affected families and the school community, saying the loss of young lives was “a pain no parent, teacher or community should ever endure.”
School officials have since visited the families, and counselling will be provided to learners on Monday.
