Polokwane shows interest in hosting the Springboks
The Polokwane Municipality, Limpopo has reportedly shown interest in hosting a Springboks match at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.
Negotiations are said to be underway with the South Africa national rugby union [SARU] officials set to visit the City on 19 December 2025 for assessments and further negotiations.
The Springboks team normally rotate their home fixtures across the country, but have never hosted an official match at the venue.

The Municipality and the Provincial government have always shown keen interest in bringing major sporting events to the City.
This was evident after the Premier Soccer League [PSL] awarded them the rights to host the Carling Knockout final on 6 December 2025.
On that day, Soweto giants Orlando Pirates will play Marumo Gallants for a R6.85 million prize.

This year alone, the 2010 FIFA World Cup facility hosted three Bafana Bafana matches. This includes a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Lesotho. They also hosted two friendly international matches against Mozambique and Tanzania.
Limpopo Chronicle has also caught wind that the Municipality council has approved the decision to host a COSAFA Cup at the venue next year.
The Peter Mokaba Stadium is home to Betway Premiership clubs Sekhukhune United, Polokwane City and Magesi FC.
