NEHAWU Limpopo demands resignation of Dr. Makhurupetje
The National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union (NEHAWU) in Limpopo, has called for the immediate resignation of the Speaker of the Limpopo Provincial Legislature, Dr. Makoma Makhurupetje, citing alleged maladministration, corruption, and abuse of power within the institution.
According to NEHAWU Provincial Secretary, Moses Maubane, the union has met with Dr. Makhurupetje twice in an attempt to seek clarity on issues plaguing the Legislature, but the situation continues to deteriorate. The union accuses the Speaker of presiding over an institution that has lost its integrity and accountability.

NEHAWU alleges that employees are being indefinitely suspended without disciplinary hearings, prices of executive vehicles are being inflated, and public funds are wasted on overseas trips without proper accountability. The union further accuses the Speaker of allowing nepotism to flourish within the institution.
“The last straw was the procurement of an executive vehicle costing R2.3 million, far above the National Treasury cap of R1.2 million,” Maubane said. “The Speaker insists there’s nothing wrong with the purchase, claiming the matter is sub judice, while the luxury Mercedes-Benz now gathers dust in the Legislature’s basement.”

NEHAWU also expressed concern over the Legislature’s recent unqualified audit opinion from the Auditor-General, stating that it reflects regression and poor governance.
The union has vowed to intensify its campaign until Dr. Makhurupetje steps down, saying her continued leadership undermines accountability and the credibility of the provincial Legislature.
