Limpopo man arrested for paying tjotjo for a learner’s license
A 37-year-old man, Mpho Watson Nkgumane, made his first court appearance following his arrest for allegedly paying tjotjo to obtain a learner’s licence fraudulently at the Lephalale Testing Station in Limpopo.
It is said that in 2021, the Hawks received complaints about officials who were issuing learner’s and driver’s licenses without following proper procedures in return for gratification at the Testing Station.

In February 2025, a joint operation was conducted at the Lephalale Test Station, where the hawks entered the exam room and found eight learners taking the learner’s driver’s license test, while ten learners completed the attendance register.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Nkgumane was outstanding, and he never sat for writing that day. The Hawks detected that Nkgumane paid gratification in the form of money.
