The keloid has caused him significant discomfort, stigma, and isolation, affecting his self-confidence and ability to form meaningful relationships.
According to the Health Department in Limpopo, Malepe was a long-lost patient of the department, and was brought back into the healthcare system through the dedication of the surgical team.
His life also took a positive turn when Dr Ephraim Kgoete, a general medical practitioner, launched a fundraising campaign to cover the cost of surgery, hospitalisation, radiotherapy, and ongoing emotional support.

The campaign garnered significant support, with over 26 donors contributing more than R26 000. Initially it aimed to raise R70 000.
The Limpopo Provincial Government expressed commitment to providing quality healthcare services to Malepe. However, there was a reported disagreement between the government and Malepe regarding treatment, with the government claiming he refused their assistance.
Fortunately, Malepe’s situation drawn attention from non-profit organisations, including Breaking New Grounds Foundation and Khayalami Health Foundation, which have joined forces to support him.
