Over 57 drunk drivers arrested on Limpopo roads
More than 57 drunk drivers were arrested by the National Traffic Police along the N1, N11 and R101 in Polokwane, Limpopo, over the weekend.
The Road Traffic Management Corporation, anticipating high traffic movement, moved to deploy more than 30 traffic officers on this busy stretch of the road.
Additionally, a staggering 163 minibuses operating without licences were issued with tickets and discontinued from their journeys.

The province was experiencing high traffic volumes over the weekend due to the Zion Christian Church pilgrimage in Limpopo.
A total of 237 vehicles were discontinued for being unroadworthy and displaying mechanical defects.
Five motorists were arrested for attempting to bribe officers, and three motorists were arrested for reckless and negligent driving.
Meanwhile, the local authorities in Limpopo also recorded 23 arrests for drunken driving. This was during Phuza Weekend operations from 6–7 September 2025.
The operations were carried out at Modimolle, Ba-Phalaborwa, Bolobedu, Giyani, Tzaneen, Maruleng, and Lephalale Traffic Stations.

In Namakgale, officers recorded the highest alcohol level at a staggering 1.16mg/L, almost five times the legal limit.
Those arrested included drivers as young as 22 years old and as old as 62, proving that no age group is immune from irresponsible choices behind the wheel.
“The Department reminds motorists that road safety is a shared responsibility,” said the department in a statement.
“Don’t drink and drive. These law enforcement operations will remain at high intensity to curb road carnage fuelled by alcohol abuse.”
