Heavy traffic warning in Limpopo
High traffic volumes are being experienced on major routes, leaving Polokwane, Limpopo, including the N1, R71, R81, R37, R524, and R579, towards other districts and provinces.
The surge in road traffic was a result of thousands of travellers who converged on the province for religious gatherings.
This includes the Zion Christian Church [ZCC] consecration conference in Moria, which began on Thursday.
The annual event is said to be a sacred and significant occasion for the in ZCC congregants.

To ensure a smooth flow of traffic and the safety of all road users, traffic law enforcement officers have been strategically deployed along major routes.
“Law enforcement operations will maintain a zero-tolerance approach towards reckless behaviour, such as speeding, overloading, drunk driving, and the use of unroadworthy vehicles,” said the Department of Transport in Limpopo.
“Motorists are equally urged to take responsibility by ensuring their vehicles are roadworthy, that all occupants wear seatbelts, and by avoiding fatigue and distractions such as mobile phone use while driving.”
Traffic is expected to pile up as the day goes on, with more people expected to leave the province.
