UNIVEN student Murder case postponed to November
The Murder case against UNIVEN student Masindi Sifundo [20] has been postponed to 26 November 2025 for further investigations.
Sifundo, Miluwani Unit C in Vhembe District, Limpopo, appeared before the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court.
He is accused of killing his girlfriend, Vhulondo Nevhukalanga [20] at Ngovhela Greenstone accredited off-campus residence on Friday.
The 20-year-old is from Tshitomboni [Makovha] village. She is a first-year Bachelor of Arts in Language Practice student at the University.

According to preliminary reports, the two entered the residence together in the afternoon, appearing in good spirits. Shortly thereafter, loud noises and signs of distress were heard from the room.
Security personnel responded swiftly, forcibly entering the locked room where they found the female student fatally wounded. Two knives were found at the scene.
Immediately following the attack, the perpetrator attempted to harm himself by jumping through the second-floor window.

Nevhukalanga’s murder hasn’t only shocked the community in Vhembe but South Africans as a whole.
The family of Nevhukalanga says they are devastated and struggling to come to terms with her passing.
The University also suspended academic activities on Monday to allow fellow students to attend court proceedings. Meanwhile, the accused remains in custody ahead of his second court appearance.
Meanwhile, Minister of Higher Education Buti Manamela has also sent his condolences to the University and the family.
“We stand firmly with the university community as you seek justice and healing,” the Minister.
“The pain you feel is shared across our entire Post-School Education and Training system, for when one student is lost, we are all diminished.
“As the Department, we have dispatched Higher Health teams to provide psychosocial support and wellness services on campus.”
“I commend the university leadership and the Student Representative Council for the manner in which you have rallied together to show solidarity and to prioritise dignity, peace, and lawful conduct during this difficult moment.”
