NRCS crackdown on dangerous goods in Polokwane
The National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications [NRCS] kick-started its surprise raids to seize unsafe goods and hold non-compliant traders accountable in Polokwane, Limpopo, on Tuesday.
NRCS say thousands of unsuspecting consumers are at risk from dangerous, substandard products being sold in local markets.

Following an operation in KwaZulu-Natal last week, the NRCS has begun an operation in Limpopo from Tuesday to Thursday.
The Raids will be targeting both formal and informal traders, with unsafe products being seized and removed immediately.
It began at the Landros Mare Street in Polokwane and spread across the City. It will also spread across some parts of the province on Wednesday and Thursday.

Some of the products taken off the shelves include skin products, kitchen appliances, electrical appliances, and plastics amongst other issues.
“The main purpose is to protect the consumers so that whatever product they are buying has been tested and has approval,” operation manager at NRCS Thabo Mabena told Limpopo Chronicle.
“We have a date base where we check if a product has been issued with a letter of authority. Any product that is being sold should have a letter of authority,” he added.
