Mother and son to appear in court for rape of a sibling [9]
A mother [35] and his 18-year-old son are set to appear in the Letsitele Magistrate’s Court, Limpopo, on Monday in connection with the rape of a 9-year-old sibling at Lwandlamuni village, Mopani District.
The 9-year-old girl reportedly disclosed to community members that her brother had sexually assaulted her on 8 August 2025 at their family residence.

She alleged that her brother called her into the house where the incident occurred. Community members subsequently approached the Police at N’wa Mitwa satellite police station on 20 August 2025.
They also brought both the victim and the suspect to the station. A case of rape was subsequently registered at Letsitele Police Station.

The brother appeared in court on Friday, 22 August 2025, where he was remanded in custody. The mother was subsequently arrested on Saturday.
This is for failure to report the crime and will join her son when they both appear in the Letsitele Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 25 August 2025.
Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has applauded the community members of Lwandlamuni village for their courage in standing up for the victim and bringing both the child and the suspect to the police station.
“We commend the community for their swift action resulting in the matter being reported to the authorities,” said Lieutenant Hadebe.
“This demonstrates the important role that communities play in protecting our most vulnerable members, particularly women and children.
“We encourage all communities to continue speaking out against all forms of violence perpetrated against women and children. We also urge them to support survivors in their quest to seek justice,” said Lieutenant General Hadebe.
