R101 road between Mokopane and Mookgophong now open
The accident scene on the R101 between Mokopane and Mookgophong, Limpopo, has been cleared and is open for traffic.
This follows a devastating collision between a heavy motor vehicle and a police van that has claimed the lives of six individuals, including one police officer and five awaiting trial inmates.

The MEC of Transport and Community Safety, Susana Mathye, visited the crime scene, accompanied by Police officials in the Waterberg District.
“Our heartfelt condolences go to the families of the deceased. Our thoughts also go to the injured, and we wish them a speedy recovery,” said Mathye.

“We are aware that six individuals were injured, with three taken to HF Odendaal Hospital in Modimolle, one airlifted to Polokwane Hospital, and two taken to Voortrekker Hospital in Mokopane.
“The circumstances surrounding the accident are still under investigation, and we urge all parties involved to exercise caution and patience as the investigation unfolds,” she added.
“The Department of Transport and Community Safety, we will continue to work closely with other law enforcement agencies to ensure that our roads are safe for all users.
“We appeal to drivers to exercise caution and adhere to road safety rules to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future. May the souls of the departed rest in peace, and may we find strength in the face of this tragedy.”
