Mafefe Challenge Cup Top 64 officially launched, draw confirmed
Mafefe Village, Limpopo was abuzz with anticipation and celebration as the Mafefe Challenge Cup – Top 64 Live Draw and Launch took place this past weekend at the Mafefe Sports Complex.
The event marked the official start of one of the community’s most anticipated football tournaments, set to run from 23 August to 18 December 2025.
It brought together team representatives, tournament committee, community members, and special guests, including Former Contralesa President, Kgoshi Setlamorago Thobejane, who graced the event with his presence and words of encouragement.

“We believe that football is part of development and entertainment,” said Kgoshi Thobejane.
“So whenever there are tournaments like these, we feel a bit relieved that we are saving our community. Despite that, sports is no longer about entertainment, it’s an economic sector of every nation.
“So when children play football, we become optimistic and believe that one or two might capitalize on the opportunity and find the gap into the market and become economically active out of the sport.”

Sponsored by Mampa & Machethe Inc Attorneys, the live draw determined the matchups for the opening round, setting the stage for an electrifying series of fixtures that will see local talent battle it out for ultimate glory.
Speaking at the launch, Edwin Mampa of Mampa and Machete Inc Attorneys expressed his excitement about the months ahead:
“This tournament is sponsored by Mampa and Machethe Inc Attorneys. I’d like to thank all of you who took your time to be present with us here today,” said Mampa.
“The reason why I decided to sponsor this tournament is because of how we’ve had another Top 64 Tournament before, and I really liked the concept. It’s a tournament concept where we get to see more teams and players from outside Mafefe participate,” he said.

“We appreciate the teams’ representatives’ presence. You being here shows that you are very passionate about Mafefe’s football. I hope when we leave here, you will go back and make sure you mobilise all your players and prepare them for this exciting tournament.”
With the draw completed, all eyes are now on the 23rd of August, when the first whistle will blow, signalling the start of nearly four months of competitive football action that will culminate on the 18th of December with the crowning of the Mafefe Challenge Cup – Top 64 champions.
The tournament is expected to draw huge community support, with local businesses, families, and football lovers rallying behind their favourite teams. It promises thrilling matches, unforgettable moments, and a platform for young players to shine.
