UL suspends student following allegations of rape
The University of Limpopo [UL] has suspended a male student following allegations of attempted rape of a female student. It is alleged that the incident occurred inside the university premises.
The male student suspected of the offence has been suspended, effective Monday, 4 August 2025, pending a full investigation and disciplinary process.

The University says support services will be activated to assist the affected student, including psychosocial support through the Student Counselling and Development Centre, as well as advocacy from the University’s Gender Desk.
“As a student-centred institution, the University prioritises the safety, dignity, and wellbeing of all its students,” said University spokesperson Victor Kgomoeswana.

“Allegations of Gender-based Violence [GBV] are treated with the utmost seriousness. The University has zero tolerance for any form of violence, including GBV, and remains committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning and working environment.
“We will initiate a formal investigation into the incident, and appropriate internal disciplinary procedures will follow in line with institutional policies.”
“The University strongly condemns all acts of violence and remains steadfast in its commitment to protecting the rights and welfare of all members of the University community.”
