Man arrested for murder of ex-girlfriend 13-month-old toddler

Police in Mankweng, Limpopo have arrested a 35-year-old man for killing a 13-month-old baby girl and injuring her mother by driving over them with a pickup van.

According to information, the female victim was with her child alongside the road, on Friday, 26 July 2025, at around 20h05, waiting for a taxi to Segopye village, when the suspect, who is her ex-boyfriend, came and started to have a heated argument with her.

A taxi arrived, and she and her baby boarded and while on the way, the taxi driver apparently informed her that the pickup van was following the taxi.

They alighted at Marothi [Makwalaneng] Cross, and her ex-boyfriend, driving the van at high speed, drove over them without stopping.

Two victims were taken to Mankweng hospital with serious injuries, and later, a 13-month-old baby passed on, and the mother sustained injuries on her leg. The suspect will appear in Mankweng Magistrate’s court on Monday, 28 July 2025.
