Polokwane’s first housing development project officially launched
Minister of Human Settlements Thembi Simelane, CoGHSTA MEC Basikopo Makamu and Polokwane Mayor John Mpe officially launched the City of Polokwane’s first housing development project in Seshego Ext 127 on Thursday.
This follows the municipality’s attainment of Level 2 Housing Accreditation, which enables them to approve and implement their own housing projects.

The Municipality has announced that it will construct over 404 low-cost housing units in the Seshego area for the people of Disteneng and Freedom Park who previously did not have housing at a total investment of R73 million. The projects started on 01 July 2025 and are scheduled for completion by March 2026.

“As the municipality, we are working in partnership with NHBRC and COGHSTA to ensure every aspect of construction meets strict quality standards,” said Mayor John Mpe.
“Substandard work will not be tolerated. We are building not just structures, but homes that must last generations.
“As part of our broader human settlements rollout, we are also prioritising electrification for new and underserved areas.”
“In Extension 133, we are electrifying 905 households in phases: 251 households have already been energised, 235 more will be connected today, and the remaining 419 households will be energised in the coming weeks, with full completion by the end of July 2025.
“We are also launching an additional electrification project for 192 households, starting today, with completion expected by the end of November 2025.”
