Three lives lost, 63 injured in Hoedspruit R531 accidents

Three people tragically lost their lives and 63 were injured in two separate vehicle accidents on the R531 road near Hoedspruit in Mopani District, Limpopo on Tuesday.

The first of the two accidents occurred at 06:30 next to Kampersrus village. A Hyundai light delivery vehicle overturned after the driver lost control. Sadly, one person died, and 23 others sustained injuries.

In the second accident, which happened at 08:00 next to Marepe Lodge, a heavy motor vehicle collided with a tractor while overtaking. Two people lost their lives, and 40 others were injured. Both vehicles were carrying workers.

“Investigations are currently underway to determine the causes of these devastating accidents,” said the department of Transport in a statement.

“Our heartfelt condolences go out to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives. We also wish a speedy recovery to those injured in these tragic incidents.”
