Sekhukhune District employees in court for fraud
Four former and current Sekhukhune District Municipality [SDM] employees, including the son of one of the employees, appeared before the Groblersdal Magistrate’s Court, Limpopo on Wednesday on fraud and money laundering charges.
The arrest follows an inquiry for investigation of ghost payment of an amount of R460,000 on services that were never rendered in 2022. Some of the accused are under the Sekhukhune Development Agency [SDA].

Reports indicate that in 2022, a former board member of the SDA opened an inquiry for investigation after an employee informed the board that he found a court order placed underneath one of their offices.
A preliminary investigation revealed that all the documentation, including the court order, was fraudulent. The stamp used on the court order was reported missing.
A case was opened at Motetema police station and transferred to Groblersdal police station for further investigation. The investigation was activated, which resulted in the arrest of five suspects.
They made their first court appearance on Tuesday and the case was postponed to Wednesday for formal bail application. But on Wednesday the bail application was denied. They were all remanded in custody until 30 May 2025.
