Three people killed, 55 injured in R36 Strijdom Tunnel accident
Three people were killed and 55 others injured when a truck carrying workers lost control and plunged into a deep ditch on the R36 road near Strijdom Tunnel in Limpopo on Tuesday.
It is said that the truck carrying workers lost control and lumbered down the mountain and failed to negotiate a horseshoe curve. Three people have died, 20 others were seriously injured and 35 sustained minor injuries

Preliminary reports indicate that the truck had a mechanical failure which caused the driver to lose control. The impact of the accident was severe, leading to multiple casualties. Emergency services swiftly responded to the scene and were joined by a rescue team from Polokwane. Injured people were taken to the nearest medical centres.

The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety has urged all road users to ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy to prevent tragedies on the road following the passing of three more people on Limpopo roads this week.
The authorities have also not yet released the identities of those involved. Investigations are also ongoing to determine the cause of the accident.
