Tzaneen shutdown update
Update – The situation remains tense in some parts of Tzaneen, Limpopo due to the shutdown by members of the community.
Part of the reason for the shutdown is in response to ongoing dissatisfaction with the Municipality’s handling of power outages, load reduction issues, and the ongoing water crisis.

Late on Sunday, the Municipality urged residents to engage in constructive talks while they are working tirelessly to find solutions. However, the Municipality says they acknowledge the frustrations of our residents.
TZANEEN MUNICIPALITY ISSUE AN UPDATE ON THE SHUTDOWN BY RESIDENTS
“The R36 road between Mokgolobotho and Lenyenye remains open, with traffic flowing smoothly,” the municipality said.
“However, tensions persist as police continue to disperse protestors. Some demonstrators retreat but return once law enforcement moves on. Passing vehicles and police units have been targeted with stones, raising safety concerns.”
Roads that remain closed are Bankuna Road, Tivumbeni EMPC [Blocked with trees and rocks]. St George [Blocked with trees and rocks] and the Dan Route is also blocked
The only accessible route out of Nkowankowa is via Mariveni. Motorists and residents are advised to exercise caution and avoid affected areas where possible.
There is also a heavy presence of police officers in some parts where there is an attempt for a shutdown.
