Limpopo Police intercept smuggling of 20 Ethiopian nationals
Police in Limpopo intercepted a human smuggling operation where they arrested 20 Ethiopian nationals who were being transported to Johannesburg in a Ford Ranger bakkie.
The incident occurred along the N11 in Mokopane after the group was allegedly smuggled into the country through the Beitbridge Border Point of Entry.

When authorities attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver refused to comply, leading to a high-speed chase.
Shots were fired at the members, prompting officers to return fire until the vehicle lost control and stopped in the bushes nearby. The driver and a passenger managed to flee on foot, evading arrest.
A HUMAN SMUGGLING OPERATION WAS INTERCEPTED BY POLICE IN LIMPOPO
Upon searching the vehicle, police discovered 20 Ethiopian men, aged between 18 and 44. They were unable to provide valid documentation for legal entry into the country.
They were placed under arrest and two males who sustained injuries during the exchange of fire with the police. The officials were transported to the hospital to receive medical treatment while under police guard. The white Ford Ranger bakkie used in the commission of the crime was also seized during the arrest.
Police opened multiple cases that include human smuggling, Contravention of the immigration Act, attempted murder, reckless and negligent driving.
A manhunt of the two male suspects who evaded an arrest is underway. The suspects will appear before Mahwelereng Magistrate court on Wednesday. They are facing a charge of Contravention of Immigration Act.
