Lepelle-Nkumpi, SANRAL clear illegal structures in Lebowakgomo
The Lepelle-Nkumpi Local Municipality, in collaboration with SANRAL, took action to clear illegal structures obstructing traffic at the R579–Jane Furse and R518–Zebediela intersection in Lebowakgomo on Friday.
This is in accordance with the South African National Roads Agency Limited and National Roads Act, 1998 (Act No. 7 of 1998), Section 48, which prohibits erecting structures on or over, or below the surface of, a national road or land in a building restriction area. The collaborative move aims to improve road safety and traffic management.

“By addressing these challenges, the Lepelle-Nkumpi Local Municipality and SANRAL aim to create a more organised and safer environment for residents and road users alike,” said the Municipality.

“The presence of unauthorised structures along roadways has posed significant challenges, leading to, Traffic Congestion. Obstructions narrow roadways, causing bottlenecks and delays and Safety Hazards. Reduced visibility and restricted movement increase the risk of accidents.
“The collaborative effort with SANRAL represents a step towards creating safer and more efficient roadways within Lebowakgomo. The municipality emphasises the importance of adhering to regulations and working together to ensure sustainable development.”
