While revealing the squad, head coach Hugo Bros raised a concern on the lack of goalkeeper development in the country. He says it’s time South Africa addresses the issue in the local league.
“It’s already been a concern for the past two years. We have been looking for young, talented goalkeepers for the past two years,” said Broos.
“But also when you look at the PSL, there are a lot of foreign goalkeepers. The young South African goalkeepers are second or third [in terms of playing]. When I hear the formation of goalkeepers has to be better in South Africa. We don’t have depth at the moment. When you look at all Bafana Bafana goalkeepers, they are all 29, 30 or older. So we have to renew that part of the team. But we don’t have the possibilities to do that.”
