Municipality send warning over fraudulent Spaza Shops permits
The Greater Tzaneen Municipality, Limpopo, has issued a strong warning against Spaza Shops owners operating with fraudulent permits. The Municipality says they are aware of fraudulent permits held by certain Spaza shop owners.
A joint operation on Monday resulted in the arrest of four operators in Mbekwana for operating without valid permits. The Municipality says they will continue to conduct daily compliance inspections. To enforce adherence to the law.

“We hereby issue a stern warning that operating a spaza shop without a valid municipal permit will result in fines, arrest, and the closure of the business,” said Municipal Manager Donald Mhangwana.
“Possession of a fraudulent permit constitutes a criminal offence in the Republic of South Africa. All spaza shop owners and operators within the Greater Tzaneen Municipality are urged to visit our offices without delay to register and obtain the necessary permits. Until such time as a valid permit is issued, unregistered spaza shops must cease operations.
“It is a criminal offense to assist or enable an illegal foreign national to conduct any business within the Republic of South Africa. It is also unlawful to aid an illegal foreign national in obtaining a business license,” he added.
“The Greater Tzaneen Municipality remains committed to supporting businesses in achieving compliance with legal requirements, thereby ensuring the safety and well-being of our residents and children.”
