DNA results clear accused in 13-year-old rape case

DNA tests have confirmed that Ditebogo Frans Gololo is not the father of a baby born to a 13-year-old girl he is accused of raping.

Despite the results, Gololo still faces a statutory rape charge of the teenager who gave birth to a baby boy on Christmas Day at Seshego Hospital, Limpopo last year. The 28-year-old was granted bail on 17 February.

He made an appearance at the Seshego Magistrates’ Court on Monday and the case was postponed to 4 May 2025 for further proceeding.

. The 13-year-old was one of 31 teenagers who delivered babies at Limpopo public hospitals on Christmas Day in 2024.

National Prosecuting Authority Spokesperson in Limpopo, Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi, says the Director of Public Prosecutions is yet to give a directive on a way forward.

Gololo was arrested by the Seshego Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit in December. It is said that the girl only revealed the incident to her aunt after experiencing complications, following which; medical tests confirmed that she was eight months pregnant in November 2024.
