Limpopo receive 484 Spaza Shops applications from foreigners
The province of Limpopo has received 5700 applications from Spaza Shop owners who want to register their business before the deadline, 484 of those by foreign nationals. 4426 of those applications have since been approved.
Registration of Spaza shops has been in effect since the 14th November 2024 and will close on 28th February 2025. 22 Local Municipalities across Limpopo have been designated as licensing centers.

The Limpopo Department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism has warned against sustained operations by unregistered Spaza Shops from the 1st March 2025.

“Although the above statistics are subject to daily changes, the Department is pleased with the level of peace and cooperation between our Business Registration officials within all municipalities and Members of the public,” said Departmental spokesperson Zaid Kalla.
“The Department is confident that all Spaza Shop Business owners will take full responsibility for their registered businesses and will remain accountable for all stock items sold within their premises.
“From the first of March 2025, all unlicensed Spaza Shops will be expected to close down their businesses immediately. Only licensed Spaza shops or Spaza shops with proof of pending applications will be allowed to operate,” he said.
