Remains of 14 SANDF soldiers handed to families
The mortal remains of 14 South African National Defence Force (SANDF) soldiers who lost their lives in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) were formally handed over to their families on Thursday. The repatriation was followed by a memorial service at Air Force Base Swartkops in Tshwane.

The soldiers were killed in January during a conflict between the DRC armed forces and M23 rebels. They had been deployed as part of a multinational peacekeeping mission by the United Nations.
President Cyril Ramaphosa, the Commander-in-Chief of the army, addressed the gathering, offering condolences to the bereaved families. The ceremony was attended by dignitaries, including Minister of Defence Angie Motshekga and grieving relatives.
