The arrests follow an intensive investigation launched in 2021 to identify officials involved in issuing learners’ and drivers licences without following legal procedures, often in exchange for bribes or other forms of gratification. These arrests bring the total number of suspects arrested since Friday 07 February 2025 to 18.

Specifically, 11 of these arrests are connected to alleged fraud and corruption at the Lephalale Licensing Department. Six more arrests were conducted over the weekend and all suspects made their first appearance on 10 February 2025.
