Allegations of nepotism at Tompi Seleka Agricultural College
There have been allegations of nepotism at the Tompi Seleka Agricultural College in Marble Hall, Limpopo. Officials are accused of hiring siblings, relatives and friends in an irregular manner.
In one instance, it is alleged that a Human Resources official was part of a panel that interviewed his own sibling, who was subsequently appointed.

In September 2024, the community protested against nepotism. This led to an agreement with the College management that low-level menial positions would be reserved for members of the local community.
The community has also accused the Limpopo Department of Agriculture and Rural Development’s provincial office of similar nepotistic practices. They alleged that wives of employees within the department have been irregularly appointed.

It is also claimed that a wife was appointed to the same department where she reports directly to her husband. Additionally, some appointees are alleged to have close ties to the current acting Head of Department (HOD).
The DA in Limpopo has strongly condemned the allegations. The party says it will ensure that the matter is thoroughly investigated, and brought to the attention of the Agriculture and Rural Development Portfolio Committee.
“Beyond the legitimate grievances raised by the community, the Democratic Alliance strongly opposes the continued practice of nepotism,” said DA Provincial Spokesperson for the Limpopo Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Marie Helm.
“As we work through the Government of National Unity [GNU], of which the DA is an anchor partner, we remain committed to building a capable and competent state that serves the interests of all South Africans.”
