ANC Limpopo reads riot act to provincial youth league

Chairperson of the African National Congress [ANC] in Limpopo Stanley Mathabatha has read the newly elected leadership of the ANC Youth League a riot act, during the Provincial 113 Anniversary Rally in Modimolle, urging them to learn from their elders.

Mathabatha spoke at the party’s Anniversary Rally taking place at Ephraim Mogale Stadium on Saturday. The Stadium is filled to the rafters, as ANC Members and Supporters attend Celebrations.

The celebrations began with a Gala dinner hosted at Castle De Wildt, Modimolle. It was addressed by Treasurer General of the African National Congress Gwen Ramokgopa.

Speaking at the Ephraim Mogale Stadium on Saturday, Mathabatha says there is no need for young people to disrespect leaders of the ANC in the name of being radical.

“Traditionally and historically, the ANC when it was at its weakest, was salvaged by the ANC Youth League,” said Mathabatha.

“Take it from 1944 when the ANCYL of Mandela started. You look at the era of the 1970s; it was the young people who revived the spirit of the liberation movement.

“So it is also very critical for Comrades to understand the culture of the ANCYL. Fortunately, you have presidents like Malusi Gigaba, they are here and from the ANCYL. These are the wells that you are supposed to tap from,” he added.

“The task of the ANCYL is not to defy leadership. The task of the ANCYL is not to disrespect those who came before them. Your task is not to keep a deaf ear to the leadership’s existing leadership. Their task is to strengthen the leadership. Your task is to ensure that you make joining the ANC among young people fashionable. You make it interesting so that you also make people join the ANC.”

Meanwhile, ANC 2nd Deputy Secretary General Maropene Ramokgopa delivered a keynote address. Ramokgopa also used the celebration to call for unity within the ANC. She says it is only a united ANC that can be able to change the lives of the people.
