President Ramaphosa addresses Elon Musk over equality laws
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa on Monday held a telephonic conversation with businessman Elon Musk over misinformation over equality laws in the country.
Musk, who was born in South Africa, has described the country’s policies as openly racist. His comments come after the billionaire had expressed strong interest in launching Starlink’s broadband-by-satellite service in the country.

In a short statement on Tuesday, the presidency said President Ramaphosa spoke to Musk over the matter.

“President Cyril Ramaphosa spoke to Elon Musk on issues of misinformation and distortions about South Africa. In the process, the President reiterated South Africa’s constitutionally embedded values of the respect for the rule of law, justice, fairness and equality,” read the statement.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump said he would halt funding until there was a full investigation into allegations that South Africa is confiscating land, and treating certain classes of people very badly.
Trump said human rights violations were happening in South Africa for all to see, without giving details or providing evidence.
But President Ramaphosa on Monday denied that South African authorities were confiscating land. He said his country was looking forward to working with the Trump administration over our land reform policy.
