Woman gives birth at Siloam Taxi Rank
A 20-year-old woman gave birth at the Siloam Taxi Rank in Nzhelele, Limpopo on Monday morning. The 39-week pregnant woman visited Siloam Hospital after feeling unwell where she was promptly examined by a doctor.
After thorough evaluation, it was determined that she was not in active labor at that time. She was also discharged on Sunday. She was advised to return for a follow-up appointment on 10th February 2025 and was given instructions for ongoing care.

On Monday at approximately 6:00 AM, Emergency Medical Services [EMS] were called to attend a scene at the taxi rank. When the EMS team arrived at the scene, the pregnant woman gave birth before she could be transferred to a medical facility.

The Limpopo Department of Health has refuted claims that the woman was denied medical care the previous day.
“The Limpopo Department of Health would like to address and clarify recent claims that a 20-year-old woman who gave birth at the Siloam Taxi Rank on Monday,” said department spokesperson Neil Shikwambana.
“There was no denial of medical care during her visit as it is alleged on public reports. The decision to discharge her was made based on her condition at that time, which did not indicate immediate labor.
“It is important to note Rumani Clinic, which is a gateway clinic attached to Siloam Hospital, was closed at the time of the incident as it opens at 6:45 AM. We want to assure the public that the woman and her baby are both stable and receiving the necessary care.”
