Police officer appear in court for corruption
A 54-year-old Police Brigadier, Motajane Mapome, appeared in Bela-Bela Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday facing a corruption charge.
He is accused of attempting to influence a fellow police investigating officer involved in a tender corruption case against a councillor in one of the regions in Limpopo.

Mapome allegedly went to Bela-Bela in 2022 and offered a promotion to the Police Colonel and also offered to assist him to obtain tenders in exchange for him [police official] destroying evidence in the case. The officer is stationed at the Hawks’ Head Office.
The matter is postponed to 26 March 2025 for further investigations. The accused was released on bail of R10 000.

Lebeya emphasized that the arrest of the senior officer highlights the Directorate’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption.
“Corruption, in any form, will not be tolerated within our ranks, no matter the seniority or position of the individual involved. The Hawks will also continue to fight crime with the utmost integrity and professionalism, ensuring that those who breach our ethical standards are held accountable to the fullest extent of the law,” he added.
