Witpoort Hospital temporarily closed due to flooding
The Witpoort Hospital in Lephalale, Limpopo has temporarily been closed and patients evacuated following severe flooding caused by the overflow of the Palala Dam. The overflow has caused significant flooding in the area, leading to the temporary closure of the hospital for safety and operational reasons.

Community members who require medical assistance are advised to seek services at the nearby Shongoane Clinic, Seleka Clinic and Abbotspoort Clinic. Those with emergencies are advised to go to Ellisras Hospital, which is fully operational and equipped to provide healthcare services during this emergency situation.
Medical staff and resources from Witpoort Hospital are being relocated to nearby facilities to ensure that there is no disruption in essential healthcare services.

“The evacuation process is being carried out with the utmost care and urgency to ensure that all patients are transferred to a safe and secure environment. We urge all community members to remain calm and follow the guidance of local authorities and healthcare professionals.
“The department will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide further updates as necessary. We thank the community for their understanding and cooperation during this time.”
