One charge dropped against rape accused Ditebogo Gololo
The National Prosecuting Authority [NPA] in Limpopo has withdrawn the sexual grooming of a minor case against 28-year-old Ditebogo Gololo due to insufficient evidence.
Gololo briefly appeared before the Seshego Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday where he abandoned his bail application following his arrest after a 13-year-old girl from Seshego gave birth to a baby on Christmas Day.

The NPA will still proceed with one charge of statutory rape. The case has been postponed to the 3rd of March for further investigations pending the DNA test results, witness statements and social worker’s report.

DITEBOGO GOLOLO MAKES A SECOND APPEARANCE AT THE SESHEGO MAGISTRATE COURT ON CHARGES OF RAPE
NPA regional spokesperson Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi says at this stage they cannot determine if they have a strong case against the accused because they are waiting for the finalization of the investigations.
On whether there have been successful convictions in such cases in the province in the past, Malabi-Dzhagi says the discretion always lies with the merits of the case as there is no standard sentence for statutory rape.
“We usually have these types of cases but the discretion lies with the magistrate to sentence the accused,” she said. “There is no minimum sentence for statutory rape.”
