The department has declared January as a month in which 36 cost centres of the department will be all out maintaining roads in the province.

“Our team will be here for the whole week to continue with the work. The pothole patching programme is intended to augment the work of Dikgerekgere Programme, where whilst we are busy with Dikgerekgere, others will be busy patching potholes to make our roads drivable,” said MEC Rachoene.

“We will be going to other districts to reinforce capacity to ensure our roads continue to receive the attention they deserve for the benefit of the people of this province,” he added.
The D4 road is currently being done in phases and the patch work is also aimed at mitigating some of the budgetary challenges that the department’s entity RAL is currently faced with. The road is also one of the strategic roads that connects Elim to N1 and also serves as a shortcut from N1 to Malamulele.
“It is the department’s mandate to ensure that roads are maintained and drivable in the province,” added the department.
“The recent rains experienced in many parts of the province have left some roads damaged. The potholes patch work is in addition to the work of #DikgerekgereWednesdays initiative focused on gravel roads.”
