Concerns over ongoing fires burning factories in Limpopo
The Limpopo Economic Development Agency [LEDA] have raised a concern about the ongoing fires that continue to burn down the agency’s factories in its industrial parks.
On Monday, LEDA experienced another fire disaster when one of its factories in Seshego Industrial Park, outside Polokwane was burnt down. It was completely destroyed following a massive blaze lasting over 24 hours.

The fire has caused significant damage to the structure, affecting the factory’s recycling programme. As a result, about 73 permanent employees would be affected. Two weeks ago, another factory in Lebowakgomo also experienced a similar fate when it was mysteriously burnt down to ashes.
The fire in Seshego, which is reported to have started in the factory’s recycling area, was later contained by the Polokwane’s Fire Department and as a matter of course. LEDA says they will soon compile a report regarding the facts pertaining to the source/origins of the fire.

LEDA RAISES A CONCERN ON THE ONGOING BURNING OF FACTORIES IN LIMPOPO
Group Chief Executive Officer, Thakhani Makhuvha says his Agency was very much troubled by these ongoing fire incidents. As a result will have a negative effect on job security.
“We continue to experience these fire disasters instead of celebrating the economic improvement and growth of our SMMEs – who are occupants of these factories.”
He added that the destruction caused by the fire is undoubtedly a setback for them. “We act swiftly to address this matter.” The cause of the fire is yet to be determined. LEDA will soon institute a comprehensive report to establish the root cause. We uncover what led to this incident to prevent such occurrences in the future.”
The GCEO commended the swift response of the Polokwane Fire Department whose courage and dedication prevented the fire from spreading to nearby buildings.
“The firefighters heroic efforts are greatly appreciated. We extend gratitude to them for risking their lives to contain the fire,” concluded Makhuvha.
