A Samaritan shot while trying to help a Woman at Thavhani Mall
Police in Thohoyandou have launched a manhunt after a man was shot and critically injured while attempting to assist a woman being robbed at Thavhani Mall. The incident occurred on Wednesday morning, 06 March 2024, at approximately 09:00.
According to preliminary investigations, a community member heard a woman screaming for help and rushed to the scene.

Upon arrival, he found that the woman was robbed of her bank card at the ATM by three unidentified assailants. Other community members were also trying to assist.
Acting on instinct to help, the man also intervened, only to be shot by one of the suspects. The assailants fled the scene immediately after the incident, leaving the victim critically injured. The emergency services responded swiftly, and the victim was transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical care.
Police have opened a case of attempted murder and will still open the robbery case once the complainant is located. An extensive manhunt has been launched to apprehend the suspects involved in this heinous act.

The Limpopo Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has commended the community members for their courage in trying to assist the victim.
“While the bravery of the victim is undeniable, the SAPS advises the public to exercise caution and prioritize personal safety, contacting law enforcement professionals to handle such situations,” said Lieutenant General Hadebe
The suspects were driving white Polo with registration number LN 85 VM GP. Police urge anyone with information to come forward and contact the investigating officer, Captain Sydney Dama, on 082 469 1035. The nearest police station or Crime Stop number is 08600 10111 or use MySAPS App.
